What is Astronomy Education?

We're here to educate, inform and support space-related education in UK schools' by:

  • Providing educators with resources relevant to the curriculum.
  • Enhancing the study of astronomy in UK schools' by supporting specific projects and provide material relevant to the curriculum e.g. Deep Impact
  • Adapting existing (international) education resources for use in UK Schools.

How is the site organised?

Specific topics can be found using the main navigation menu or search functions. From here you can access material which will:
  • Provide access to the latest astronomy/space news News.
  • Collate education material from relevant resources through the Magazine Resources section.
  • Provide guidance and advice to amateur astronomers and schools on choosing and using astronomy related equipment through the Astronomy Guide section.
  • Provide background information on astronomical topics through the Window on the Universe.
  • Assist educators in assessing the relevance of any material relative to the UK curriculum through the School Support section.
  • Assist astronomers and schools to work together - the new "How to manual for teachers and astronomers" section is based on a successful US booklet, and was produced as part of an STFC project to assist collaborations.

How is the site supported?

Most resources have been produced specifically for UK schools using funding from the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), the Dill Faulkes Education Trust and the Faulkes Telescope Project. There will also be links to the best  materials produced by NASA and other organisations.
